Celebrating the Spirit of Collaboration and Regeneration at SAGG Eco Village! Last October, we had the privilege of hosting the Western Himalayan Alternatives Confluence at SAGG Eco Village in Kashmir, in collaboration with Mool Sustainability Research and Training Center. Something magical unfolded. As we gathered in the crisp mountain air, surrounded by breathtaking views, Biju Bhai Negi sang the Millets Song, and it felt as though the very air around us was rejoicing. This wasn’t just a retreat; it was a gathering of hearts and minds—old friends and new—united by a shared vision for the regenerative development of the Himalayan regions. A Dream Come True RetreatHosting this confluence was a dream come true for me personally, one I had nurtured since I first began engaging with the network over 15 years ago. The gathering became a fertile ground where dreams took root. We exchanged stories, knowledge, and plans, weaving together a tapestry of hope and action. From the wisdom of the mountains to the resilience of millets, every conversation was a step toward reimagining a future that honours both people and the planet. Realisations That MatterOne of my key reflections from this experience is that true alternatives cannot emerge from hurried, corporate-style meetings. We need longer conversations—deep, meaningful dialogues that span not just days, but months. It’s in these extended moments of connection that we can truly listen, learn, and co-create. The Himalayan regions, with their rich cultural and ecological heritage, deserve nothing less. They offer the wisdom that can heal us individually and collectively.
